GERMAN EMPIRE
The foundation of the
German Empire 1871 in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles concluded
the Franco-Prussian War just as the existence of a large number of
German states. The grandchild of the Emperor Wilhelm I ran a
colonization politic with the aim to made of Germany a worldwide
Empire following the example of the British and French Empire. As a
result, an arms race grew between the competing European's Great
Powers as much as a rise of the nationalism what made a World War
inevitable: the trigger of that was the assassination in Sarajewo of
Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne and took an end
1918 with the abdication of Emperor Wilhelm II.
